Our Story

After twenty years of service to our nation, the mission continues right here at home.

My Second Service was founded on a simple belief: no one who has spent a lifetime building a home, raising a family, and contributing to their community should struggle alone with everyday tasks.

We provide free assistance to seniors and individuals with limited mobility in Alamance County who need help with routine household responsibilities that have become difficult due to age, health, or mobility challenges. Sometimes it’s changing a light bulb, sometimes it’s yard work, sometimes it’s moving a small piece of furniture or installing a grab bar, and sometimes it’s simply being there.

Second Service was created by Adam, a twenty-year Army veteran and resident of Alamance County. After retiring from military service, he recognized that the call to serve doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. The idea for Second Service grew from something deeply personal watching his own mother age and realizing how even small tasks can become overwhelming.

What began as a desire to help one family member grew into a vision to support many.

This organization was built out of love, respect, and gratitude for a generation that has given so much. It exists to provide an extra set of hands, a steady presence, and someone to call when a task feels too big to manage alone.

Second Service is not just about home maintenance; it’s about dignity and community. It’s about neighbors helping neighbors.

We believe service is not a chapter of life, it's a commitment that continues.
